General Motors has decided to expand its hybrid powertrain across one more member of its full-size SUV and pickup range, the luxury-laden GMC Yukon Denali Hybrid. The addition of hybrid technology to the Yukon Denali makes the Yukon Denali Hybrid the flagship model in the GMC lineup. Mechanically identical to the Cadillac Platinum Hybrid – the top-end model of the Escalade lineup – as well as the standard Yukon Hybrid, the Yukon Denali Hybrid receives the automaker’s 6.0-liter V8 with Active Fuel Management cylinder shut-off and two electric motors packaged in the transmission capable of powering the SUV’s electronics at stop and at low speeds. The Hybrid features a CVT rather than a traditional transmission.
In hybrid trim, this engine’s output is down to 332 horsepower and 367 lb-ft of torque, thanks to an adjustment to the valve timing to reduce consumption.
GMC says the Yukon Denali Hybrid can achieve up to 21 mpg around town, along with 22 mpg on the highway. This increase in fuel economy represents a 50 percent increase for city driving, where most consumers spend their time, and where thirsty V8s suffer most.
Standard on all Yukon Denali vehicles are a myriad of features, such as tri-zone automatic climate control, a navigation-equipped audio system, Bluetooth and leather seating.
Luxury upgrades for the Denali Hybrid include new 22-inch alloy wheels, heated and cooled 12-way power (front) leather seats and otherwise upgraded interior accommodations. Three options are available: A power moonroof, rear-seat DVD entertainment system and side blind zone alert mirrors.
The Yukon Denali Hybrid retails for $59,185 for a two-wheel-drive variant and $62,030 for the all-wheel-drive model, including the $950 destination charge. That represents a roughly $7,300 premium over the non-Hybrid model, which achieves 12 mpg around town at 17 mpg on the highway with its 366 horsepower 6.0-liter V8. The 2010 edition of the

Hyundai Santa Fe isn’t getting a full redesign, but a visual refresh does provide a few hints of the “fluidic sculpture” design language that debuted last month on the new Tucson and Sonata. The new hood features a pair of ridges extending back from the grille to the A-pillars as well as sculpted bars in the grille similar to the Sonata. The lower front fascia also gets some new forms that evoke a similar look to the Tucson. However, the most important upgrades to the Santa Fe are under the hood and will no doubt help Hyundai maintain and advance its lead in the CAFE race. The old 2.7-liter and 3.3-liter V6 engines have been sent off to the scrap heap in favor a pair of engines that provide better performance and efficiency. The base setup is the same 175 horsepower 2.4-liter inline-four found in the new Tucson while the optional engine is a re-vamped 3.5-liter Lambda V6 now with 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque.

Both engines are mated up exclusively with six-speed transmissions but only the four gets a manual option.
The four bumps the EPA numbers from the 18/24 mpg of the old 2.7-liter to 20/28 while the 3.5 improves on the 17/24 mpg values of the 3.3 to 20/26 mpg.

GMC Yukon Halo Headlights.

GMC introduced its Yukon in 1992; it had a design change in 2007. The 2011 GMC Yukon continues a long tradition of sport utility vehicles of exceptional performance and quality. The Yukon is expected to carry over mostly unchanged for the new model year. It will be offered in three trim levels, will have two or four-wheel drive, and can seat either five to nine people.
Available in both two wheel and four wheel drive, the basic two wheel drive 1500 SLE comes equipped with a gas/ethanol 5.3 liter or 4.8 liter, V8 engine. The top end two wheel drive is the 2WD 4dr 1500 Denali with a 6.2 liter, V8 engine. The four wheel drive Yukon comes in SLE and SLT versions with 5.3 liter V8 engine, and the AWD 4dr 1500 Denali is the top of the line for this model with a 6.2 liter engine.
The two wheel drive SLE engine is rated at 295 hp, while the SLE 4WD is equipped with a 320 hp engine with Active Fuel Management. The Denali models come with 403 hp engine. Hybrid 2WD and 4WD models are available with electric drive system and are rated at 332 hp.
